Where can I get Mohs surgery on Long Island?

Belaray Dermatology performs Mohs micrographic surgery at its Hicksville (Nassau County) and Stony Brook (Suffolk County) offices. Belaray is the only Long Island dermatology practice with three dual board-certified Mohs surgeons on staff and performs more than 2,200 Mohs surgeries a year.

What types of skin cancer does Belaray treat?

Belaray diagnoses and treats basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and precancerous actinic keratoses, and screens for and coordinates care for melanoma. Mohs micrographic surgery is used for basal and squamous cell cancers, especially on the face and other high-risk sites.

Does Belaray perform reconstruction after skin cancer removal?

Yes. When reconstruction is appropriate, tumor removal and wound repair are completed the same day at both offices, and some smaller wounds are intentionally allowed to heal naturally by secondary intention. For skin cancers around the eye, Dr. Rachel Ellis performs same-visit oculofacial plastic reconstruction — a combination available together nowhere else in the Tri-State Area.

How do I know if I need Mohs surgery?

Mohs surgery is typically recommended for biopsy-confirmed basal or squamous cell carcinomas on the face, ears, nose, lips, and other cosmetically or functionally sensitive areas, and for large, recurrent, or aggressive tumors. Your dermatologist will advise whether Mohs is appropriate after examining and biopsying the lesion.
