Preparing for your cosmetic visit
Please read the following carefully to prepare for your appointment
Topical Anesthesia:
You should arrive 30 minutes prior
to your appointment for numbing cream for the following procedures
- Filler (Belotero, Juvederm, Volbella, Voluma, Vollure, etc)
- MicroLaserPeel
- Profractional
- Microneedling
- Laser hair removal to sensitive areas in select cases (usually not required)
Oral Medications/Supplements:
Please avoid all NSAIDs (such as aspirin, ibuprofen products like Advil and Motrin, naproxen products like Aleve, prescription anti-inflammatories like Mobic), Fish Oil, St. John's Wort, Other herbal supplements and alcoholic beverages 10 days before and after
- neurotoxin injections (Botox/Xeomin)
- filler injections (Juvederm, etc)
- Profractional laser or microneedling
If recommended by the dermatologist, please be sure to take any oral antibiotic or antiviral medication prescribed (most commonly Keflex and Valtrex) starting 3 days prior to your procedure. Let your doctor know if you are prone to cold sores. If you have anxiety and require pre-medication, please let your dermatologist know in advance and make sure you arrange for a driver.
Skin Care Routine:
Do not
wear make-up on the day of your procedure. Please arrive with a freshly washed face. Let the medical assistant know if you have any make-up, cream or sunscreen on your face prior to beginning your treatment.
Avoid any self-tanning lotions, wipes, sprays or airbrush tans and do not wax the area 10 days before and after cosmetic procedures.
Chemical Peels, Micro-needling & Laser Treatments:
Please stop all
- lightening products (such as hydroquinone, Tone lotion/pads)
- anti-aging or acne products such as retinols
- masks
- scrubs
- toners
- glycolic and salicylic acid products
- benzoyl peroxide
- Topical acne and rosacea medications (especially retinoids ie: Altreno, Differin, Epiduo, RetinA, Tazorac, Veltin) 1 week before and after any chemical peel, microneedling or laser treatment.
If you are having laser hair removal
do not wax, pluck or thread 1 month prior or in between sessions. You should shave the night before treatment.
Sun Exposure:
You must not
have any tan or sunburn when you come for laser treatments. Please be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen (a mineral-based SPF 50+ every 2 hours is best) and protective clothing/hats if you will be outdoors in the weeks surrounding your procedure.
Medical Conditions:
Let your dermatologist know if you are
- Pregnant
- Breastfeeding
- Have been diagnosed with any infections, autoimmune or neurological conditions
Dental Work:
You are advised not to have any dental procedures for at least 2 weeks before and after filler injections, microneedling or ablative laser procedures such as Profractional or MicroLaserPeel.
Note: Failure to comply with the pre-procedure instructions outlined above or otherwise recommended by your dermatologist may result in cancellation or postponement of treatment.
